Has anyone used this product instead of copper for AC line sets?
Other than the initial investment in pipe tongs the material seems to be cheaper than using copper. I'm just curious if anyone has used the product.
It doesn't seem to kink the way copper does, which would reduce a lot of damage that occurs on new construction.

Never seen it around anywhere, what are the equipment manufacturers take on using these linesets?
That's a really good question. I don't want to be the guinea pig, but I remember all the negativity regarding PEX when it replaced copper for water lines and it turned out to be a good product.
I have a sample of this PERT tubing and it seems like really nice stuff to work with. It has an aluminum coating inside. You still have to braze barb fittings into the coil and AC. If the manufacturers decide to support this product they should start manufacturing equipment with barb fittings so we can retire our torches and never have to deal with leaks caused by bad installs.
I think there's alot of potential with this product.
easier for us yes, but also easier for a home owner or weekend warrior who thinks they can do it themselves now. Less business for us in the trade. I'r rather it stick to being more difficult, justifies my hourly rate lol.
It does make it easier, but there's still a lot more than brazing to do when installing a new AC. I'm hoping that will be enough to offer us some job security.
And just think of all the DYI installs with blown compressors after 5 years of operation. There's no tong or crimper tool that will change out that compressor. Just imagine all the refrigerant that would end up in our atmosphere from a DYI recovery machine. ;)
i would wait a while. to me its the same design as Kitec which has a lawsuit for like over 5 years. From the expansion and pressures i wouldn;t trust it long term

Under approvals, I don't see UL or CSA ?? I'd dig a little deeper before pulling the trigger.
If you are worried about the fly by nighters using this stuff I think you can forget it. The tools are pricey so I doubt they would pay to get started.
The product is easy to use and doesn't kink like copper. Still need to braze the fittings and insulate the line tho.
