so at my work we have been installing a lot of 2 stage furnaces in the past 2 years.i noticed that our service dept sets these furnaces up to go into 2nd stage after 10 minutes of operating.ive installed a 2 stage for myself and have a 2 stage thermostat installed to run a true 2 stage setup.im all wired up using R,W1,W2,G,Y and C but my question is what are my furnace settings to enable 2 stage operation?i assumed that I should be on the "none" timer stting but figured I had better ask the pro,s here to make sure I'm correct.
It depends on the manufacturer. Some brands ship their 2 stage furnaces to operate with single stage thermostats. Other brands, like Lennox, come set to operate with 2 stage thermostats. It's a good idea to review every 2 stage furnace setup. You will likely find a lot that are stuck on low fire because a single stage thermostat is being used and no one flipped the dip switch for single stage thermostat.
I believe with York there's a staging jumper. If it's set to off you're using a two stage thermostat. For a single stage thermostat, set the jumper to 10, 15 or 20 minutes.
thanks mr admin, thats the way I thought it should work.instructions are very vague and I wanted to do this without bringing in one of our "parts changers".i swear to god those guys are special. ;D
