Venmar Constructo 1.0 HRV with NEST or Ecobee?
« on: May 19, 2017, 11:07:50 AM »
Hi,

I got some questions.
I got an Venmar Constructo 1.0 HRV (https://www.venmar.ca/29-air-exchangers-constructo-1-0-hrv.html) It does both Dehumidify and air exchange.
I also have optional wall control that you push and it will run for 20 min in my bathroom (https://www.venmar.ca/232-accessories-2 ... utton.html)
Currently, i have an "optinal" wall control Dehumdistat : https://www.venmar.ca/262-accessories-dehumidistat.html

1) Does this mean that what I have right now, it does not do any air exchange and just dehumidify?

2) If it doesn't do any air exchange and If I want air exchange with Dehumifier, can I change to Altitude all exchange? https://www.venmar.ca/224-accessories-a ... ntrol.html
My model: 41502, serial: BB08150817488. Made August 2015. Will this unit do both together at the same time?

3) Can I change it to an smart one like NEST or Ecobee that can do both dehimify and air exchange at the same time?

I don't need to put my electrical heating, since I have an electrical baseboard and the NEST or ecobee doesn't work with that.

My Venmar Constructo 1.0 HRV currently use I, OC, OL plug into my Dehumdistat and 3x 20 min push button (in bathroom)
Available to plug in  Venmar  Constructo 1.0  is: NO, C, NC, I, OC, OL, Y, R, G and B

My HRV have the ability to use also Air Exchange.

Can you help to see if that is compatible?

Thanks!

That system is an air exchanger.  It is not designed to be a dehumidifier.  It will only remove moisture when the outdoor humidity is lower than inside the house.  Any time the HRV runs, it exchanges air unless it's in defrost mode.

The Vennar controls are mis-leading.  People always think they can remove or add humidity.

The NEST cannot control the HRV, but the Ecobee will.

Also the Venmar Altitude Control is good, it's similiar to the Vanee Platinum Wall Control.

Hi,

I was more aiming toward Ecobee since i can check on my cell phone.

what about the connector I have right now for I, OC and OL.

I don't see this is ecobee wiring.

I would presume i would use in ecobe the  Y, R, G, B? and C?

what about the I, OC and OL?

Thanks!

You setup the Ecobee ACC dry contacts for ventilation and wire the 2 ACC terminals to B and G on the HRV.

The I, OL and OC are wired directly from the HRV to the furnace.  It's for the interlock wiring so the furnace fan will run anytime the HRV is turned on.

I only have the HRV. No furnace unless is build inside?

I have electric baseboard to heat up the house but I know is not compatible with ecobee.

So that mean, i let the 3x push button in the bathroom wiring  in the I, OL, OC plug into the back of the Venmar. Nothing else to do right?

When you say "You setup the Ecobee ACC dry contacts for ventilation" I guess that in the ecobee menu.

the ACC- and ACC+, does it matter which B or G goes? if so, which one I need?

sorry for all those question.

Thanks!

Sorry, if you don't have a forced air system then you don't need to interlock or use the I, OL and OC terminals.

Yes, the Ecobee has a setup menu to set the ACC terminals to dry contacts for ventilation.  it does not matter which wire, B or G, you connect to the ACC+ and ACC- terminals, on the Ecobee.

Sorry 1 more question. I think then I will have all the wiring setup.

You mention: "you don't need to intrelock or use the I, OL and OC"

But those wire are for my 3x button that turn on for 20 min in the bathroom.

So where would I plug this?

Thanks again. Sorry to ask so many question. Just making sure I got all cover. I hate to start an project and have to pause  in middle.

LOL sorry I'm really confused.  The interlock wiring uses terminals NO, NC and C.

The 20 min timers have to stay wired to the I, OL and OC terminals.  You would leave the 20 min timers installed where they are, in the bathrooms.

The Ecobee would only replace the humidistat wall control you have and use the B and G wires.

Sorry to confuse you.

So on ecobee I just need B and G that goes to ACC+ and ACC-

To power the Ecobee I just need the R and C (to avoid any function issue)

+++++

On the Venmar board, no change. Keep I, OC and OL like it is.

So that should do it.

I should not have any compatibility issue.

Like I turn on the 20 min button, then go on ecobee and turn on the air exchange .
Ecobee will know?

No worries, I confused myself by not reading properly.

Yes, just wire the B and G to the ACC+ and ACC-.  The HRV will run if the 20 min timer is turned on or if the Ecobee is turned on.  You don't have to worry about double powering the HRV.  The HRV runs the same whether it's turned on by the Ecobee or the 20 min timer.  The HRV will not see a difference between the current humidistat control and the Ecobee,  They both close the B and G circuit and start the HRV.

My only concern now is where do you have a R and C terminal?  You will probably have to use a transformer to feed the Ecobee with a 24V supply.  Most hardware stores sell a plug in type transformer that will plug into the 120V wall outlet.  Then run low voltage wiring from it to the R and C terminals on the Ecobee.

I do have R and C according to the manual. So I should be good.
The ecobee and the Vanmar will be like 30 cm away. So it's not hard to wire it.

Available to plug in  Venmar  Constructo 1.0  is: NO, C, NC, I, OC, OL, Y, R, G and B.

No, the R terminal on the HRV is not a 24v supply.  You need a seperate 24v supply from a transformer.

If you wire the Ecobee to the HRV's R and C terminals, it will not power up.

The PEK is for users that do not have a C wire coming from the furnace.  In your case you don't have a furnace or any thermostat wiring.

Where are you getting 24v from?

I guess I need an transformer for it.

I don't know how to get 24V.

Any suggestion I can use ?

I though C wire was use also for wifi.

You think if I use the R from my Venmar to PEK and plug it into the ecobe R and not the C it will do the job?

How much the PEK convert the Volt?

No, the R terminal on the HRV will not work no matter what you do.  Forget about the PEK.

Most hardware stores sell a plug in type transformer that will plug into the 120V wall outlet.  Then run low voltage wiring from it to the R and C terminals on the Ecobee.
