garage heater venting
« on: December 12, 2017, 07:12:25 PM »
so apparently the rules have changed for venting materials to be used with garage heaters.i have a modine hot dawg heater in my garage and vented it with b-vent through the wall connected to unit with c-b adapter and c-vent.at work we have conflicting opinions, some say all the new garage heater installs must use a different vent.others say this is only required for new construction and not existing buildings.ive got to install a modine hot dawg for a buddy here in Ontario and just want to get the proper information.

                                                            thanks

All residential horizontally vented units manufactured after July of 2011 must be vented as a Caterory III Unit/Utility Heater in compliance with UL 1738 & ULS636.  For horizontal residential installations these units are certified as Category III appliances.

The Modine Hot Dawg requires a drain on the venting if venting is sloped back towards the unit but if you vent it down and away you can let the condensate drip out the end of the venting termination.

so what is the reasoning for going to a stainless vent kit? are the powers that be afraid that the b-vent will rot out with horizontal runs?
