Hey gang,
Been to three service calls in two days at this Summeraire. Replaced the fan/limit, the pulleys and belts have recently been changed. Generally, everytime I leave, I have the blower working in conjunction with the fan/limit switch. Low and behold, I get a service call every night because the blower has stopped working.
I read somewhere that on old Summeraire's (where they run the blower wiring down below the heat exchanger) that the wiring burns out. Any tips, suggestions?
Need more information.
How many amps is the motor pulling?
What is the amp draw on the rating plate?
What microfarads is the capacitor and what is it's rating?
Did you do a continuity test all all the blower motor legs?
Did you check the filter and airflow?
What other tests have you done?
Got it figured out - motor keeps tripping out on thermal overload. Checked the bearings, belt and blower - all fine. I'm going back to the place tomorrow - will do some more electrical tests. What variance in amperage should i be looking for i.e. +/-? I'm sure the rating plate sid 4.2A. Tested capacitor it was a 7.5 mF and was testing fine.
Could it be air restriction in the ductwork as well?
Appreciate all the help - new to the trade!
The motor amps should be close to the rated amount, just not over. Sometimes they are a little under. Just last week I had a customer with a similar problem. Turns out they had 3 filters stuffed in the return air elbow. The blower was starving for air and over heating. About a month ago, another customers blower motor was welded solid. The filter looked like it was not changed in 5 years. It took the board out as well by over heating a relay.
I should have added that you should check the returns and heat vents for furniture or whatever blocking them, and do a heat rise on the furnace.
Thanks for everything! Re-checked the amerpage draw yesterday and it was waaay over (rated for 5.2 and was drawing around 8). It was pooched at this point. Replaced with a refurbished motor and no problems. Also had to have the family move some furniture that was covering several of the returns.
Thanks for everything!
if you have anymore issues with this motor replace it. to me it sounds like there is a flat spot on the rotor and when it cycles off and stops on this flat spot the motor won't start unless you help it... if it has done this a couple times you probably have winding damage.
According to his last post, he did replace it.
