Title: cost for getting contractors number and insurance
Post by: mattmctree on July 28, 2013, 08:55:37 AM
hi all,

just curious the approximate price for a contractors number and cost of insurance fior the year?

are you able to hold you contractors licence if you dont have insurance yet?

also i assume a tssa number is required for air conditioning work as well? or is there another registration number that need to be got if ac / ref  is the only thing you want to do?

I know the process has changed and I'm not totally clear on it but I believe TSSA actually comes to audit you now before the number gets issued. They bill you their small hourly fee (not sure of that either but believe it is around $175/hr ?). I would imagine there would be a fee for the number as well.
The a/c, refrigeration side is not part of TSSA although they get their fingers into it with pressure vessels and welding/brazing. ACR is now under the College of Trades and I think the apprenticeships are still under MCTU.

It's just under $500 to get your contractors license and a good "hard hat" insurance policy runs about $112 a month. Yes you can get a contractors license without insurance.
