I work for a guy who literally works about 1-2 hours a week, while me and his helper do all the real work on the job. We don't make much money while he makes all the money driving around and buying toys.
Now today, he came to me with some BS statement that the head office was saying they noticed the writing on the tag doesn't match his... This is because I always fill out the tags. He then tells me that they say I should be tagging the jobs with my license number and name since I'm the one who does the piping. (and almost everything else).
I have zero interest in tagging the jobs with my license as I feel it means I'm now taking the responsibility of the equipment. He's saying it's just for the piping itself. But either way, I don't care to have my name on these jobs when he's supposed to be the lead installer doing these jobs.
Should I be telling him I'll continue tagging it with his information and leave it at that? I have no intention of having my name on the tag while he makes all the money for the job. There's also certain ways he does things and cheaps out on supplies that I don't want my name associated with.
You should be using his TSSA contractor #. If your doing the work, you tag it with your name as the Gas technician and license #. Anything you do should be properly leak or pressure tested. Take pictures of your work. You are taking responsibility for the gas line install, not the warranty on the equipment.
Yes, I use his contractor license number, but I don't like the idea of having my name on the tag for any sort of liability going my way that should be going to him since he's supposed to be the one taking all the responsibility for the job. I'm always confident in the tightness and quality of my gas work, but sometimes I'm using nipples or parts I don't want to because I'm lacking a decent supply he's too cheap to buy. I also wonder if the other guy who works with us that normally does the 636 is to forget to glue a joint, and then have some inspector show up after everyone's dead and go after me since my name is on the tag. I've also seen an idiot Enbridge Inspector give us a reject for a gas leak on a new piping system I did when it was their actual gauge that was leaking.
My boss was giving me piles of grief for the fail and was really looking forward to finding the leak when he went back. You should have seen the look on his face when the piping was holding 15 psi for an hour with not even the slightest indication of a leak... The whole thing was also soaped from one end to the other with no leaks.
simply put, if you did the piping and testing then its your name that goes on the tag.
I see what you're saying, but with the liability involved in relation to the money I get paid, I'll tell him his name and license goes on it, or he'll need to replace me with a different employee.
The pressure tag is for the piping, not the complete job. You get your work/jobs inspected by fuel distributer? If you do, they do an inspection and initially introduce gas too it, nothing to worry about then .
Make it clear on your tag as the work you did. If you didn't do the venting put it on your tag as "gas piping only" and take pictures. You can't put his name as the gas technician if you did the work.

Well it's not a situation where I'd be sneaking around doing work and putting his name on it without him knowing or anything. He's paid for the job as the installer and I'm called "the helper" from the company he works for. I already hate the Enbridge dbags for another reason I'll be posting soon.
The enbridge guys are hilarious, they just tag stuff for no reason so the liability is off their hands as being the last techs in, the customer is forced to call in a contractor to write the tag off. They don't even know the codes properly, last week I had to go write a tag off because they tagged the furnace s636 venting for not having 6"clearance to a B-vent. since when did B-vent require 6" clearance haha?? they'll tag crap like that and then totally miss the obvious infractions.
