Hi I'm in the process of setting up a date to challenge the obt3 exam. I know there is a written and practical part to it.
I was hoping someone might be able to give some insight into what TSSA will expect for the practical?
Thanks
The OBT3 practical skill assessment is fairly straight forward. The TSSA inspector will book a lab near you at a training center or college.
You will be allowed to use your codebook and will be asked to locate sections or clauses. Just use the index at the back of the code book for reference.
Practice flaring copper and know the difference between a forged and milled flare nut.
You may also be asked about the basic operation of a furnace. Make sure you know how to test the safeties. The inspector will want to see you disable the fan motor neutral or remove the fan belt to test the primary limit safety.
You may be asked to use a combustion analyzer to setup the furnace.
Good Luck!
funny you ask, I just challenged the obt3 and did the exam several weeks ago (I passed!), and I'm in the process of arranging for the practical to be done with some tssa dude. Some of the questions are still fresh in my mind from that exam. Have you studied any material in relation to it? I studied the algonquin college obt3 lab book before I dared challenge it.
