What's the best location for regulator between generator and meter
2psi meter going to 7" wc generator

I think you mean Eaton generator.  If the regulator has a relief opening it would need to be at least 10' from the generator.

Isn't the regulator already attached to the natural gas meter?  It should already be feeding 7" WC to your supply pipe.

Did this regulator come with the generator?

The generator may ship with a propane regulator.  Some of those units can be converted from natural gas to propane.

Find the model number and we can find the installation manual.
