What's the avg yearly pay?
Right now, market is flooded with G2 holders. Most G2 making 12-15 bucks an hour. (Unless person is in Union 787) About $24K yearly.
Only G2 will not do much. Once 313d, you can expect to make in low 20's per hour.
Days are gone, when G2 used to make 60K. For 60K you need G1 and 313A lol.
I don't wanna break anyones Ba**s, but that's a reality.
Person can work at Enercare or other companies (which pays $20 per hour), but then you are working as a Salesman in Technician's uniform.
Unfortunately, I have to agree with the above. I've also heard from old time hvac guys they had never heard of anyone getting laid off in this trade. But this now happens all the time.
I found these on google. I think there a little overly optimistic for what I typically see in the Ottawa area:

I can't really go by hourly wage when I work with a contractor and hours are more often quite a bit less than a full time job. Even tho I'm in mid 20's per hour, when I take away the months where I have zero work, and then add in all the days where I get paid for only about 3 or 4 hours of work, I'm probably in the same ball park as a pimple-faced teen who flips burgers at a fast food joint. Maybe even less.
It starts to make sense why I can't purchase anything other then the essentials for survival.
Seriously that's all so why get into this field ?? How about on average guys that have their own business
I think the reason average pay scale went down is due to easy access to G2 licenses. Back in time only people chose HVAC who had genuine interest. Now a days, if person wants to get into skill trade, they have tough luck with all the other apprenticeship trades, but it is very easy to get into HVAC because license can be studies in college.
Millwright, electrician or some other trades it is strictly apprenticeship (good luck finding employer to sign up), but hvac is just go to school and get license, so it's very easy to get.
Hopefully they will make Gas Trade Red Seal to keep wages in line or they will keep going down.
Depends on how skilled the tech is. I am paying my G3 Obt3 313d apprentice over 50k a year. He will be eligible to write for his level 2s in march. My other guy is just a helper with no licenses and hes making 20/hr. I also buy them coffee and lunch everyday. If you pay the guys well and treat them with respect, they will work hard and not DF all day.
Before going off on my own i worked for a large greedy compay. Low pay only gives the guys excuses to slack off.
you most likely have to start at the bottom and put your time in before you start making good money. I started off making about $15 an an hour 7-8 years ago. Get your 313D so you make yourself more valuable. You'll be making good money before you know it if you prove you're worth it.

You da man. When I was first working with no licenses it was always an easy excuse for an employer to say "Well I can't pay you more then minimum wage since you don't have a licenses"... Even tho I knew it was just because the guy was greedy and wanted cheap labor as a helper.
This seems like a G2 with no skills and just acting as a helper fresh out of school. Even that is lower than any job posting I've seen.
I started out in service right out of school at $15 just over two years ago. Over double that now within two years.

You'd be more of a salesman instead of a technician. No different than Reliance.
Are we still specific to Toronto or is Ottawa about the same?
I've had my G2 for 2 years now. I make 55-60k a year and I have my own work truck. I'm strictly commercial.
how come I hear people making like 500 off a residential install??
500 is peanuts. Won't be in business very long if you're only making 500 on an install. Maybe on a sidejob that's alright.
500 clear on a side job is decent no? How much clear do u guys make in a regular job??
G2 fresh out of school 15-16 per hr after a 6 month go up to 17 hr Also need 313 a or d or sheet metal ticket to make good wages plus experience good service techs are hard to find
Also on the side job 500 clear is not bad lol but keep in mind when buddy's house burns down and you have no insurance and contractors number is the 500 really that much lol
If you know the right people or are with the right companies you can make $$$ but you have to be good at what you do. I've had my g2 for 16 years now and I'm making 6 figures. Those lower wages are back alley, smaller, or the ex door knocker companies. Side job furnace installs usually have a profit margin of $800-$1000 profit and that's with the customer getting a pretty good deal. I will have to admit, the trade is nowhere near as good as it used to be. Me being a residential installer, I make more than my fully licensed refrigeration buddies which pisses them right off! Lol But again, it's how good you are and who you know!
