Charge: Part I Provincial Offences Act notice for an offence under the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009, sec. 4 – employing or otherwise engaging individual to engage in compulsory trade without a Certificate of Qualification.
Summary: On May 2, 2017 Ontario College of Trades inspectors conducted an inspection at a new residential construction site located at 36 Liam Street, Petawawa ON. The inspectors determined that two individuals employed by 1509212 Ontario Ltd. o/a Oakridge Heating, Colling, Custom Sheet Metal were installing air conditioning units while they did not hold Certificates of Qualification or Statements of Membership in the compulsory trade of residential air conditioning systems mechanic (313D) that were not suspended, and while they were not apprentices in the trade working pursuant to a registered training agreement that is not suspended.
On June 26, 2017 1509212 Ontario Ltd. o/a Oakridge Heating, Colling, Custom Sheet Metal was convicted of the charge in a Pembroke court and ordered to pay a fine of $150 plus a $25 victim fine surcharge.
$150 fine, what a joke. the charge should be what it costs to actually get the license, first charge should be minimum $3500 to actually deter this kind of activity.
