Contravention: Employing or otherwise engaging individual to engage in compulsory trade without a Certificate of Qualification, contrary to section 4 of the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009 (OCTAA).

Summary: On November 24, 2017, Ontario College of Trades inspectors responded to a complaint from the public regarding an individual that performed electrical work at Chatham residence on August 24, 2017. The inspectors determined that one individual employed by Quality Air Heating & Cooling cut through a wire during a HVAC installation, added 18 inches of wire and spliced into electrical wire while he did not hold a Certificate of Qualification or a Statement of Membership in the compulsory trade of electrician – domestic and rural (309C) that is not suspended, and while he was not an apprentice in the trade working pursuant to a registered training agreement that is not suspended.

Notice of Contravention: On December 6, 2017, a College inspector issued a Notice of Contravention to Quality Air Heating & Cooling of Chatham, setting out an administrative penalty of $500. Quality Hair Heating & Cooling had no other OCTAA Notices of Contravention issued to it in the three years preceding the date of the current notice.

This seems kind of lame. I'm wondering if the guy had any licenses or what?

I can't believe they would fine $500 for a guy trying to fix a broken wire. Either there is more to this story or this is getting a little ridiculous now!
