Title: Stuff the hot air vents?

Is this a good idea?

Heat rises so eventually a lot of that heat would rise up anyway.

Normally you would close the basement vents in the summer, when you run the AC, as the cool air will drop back down to the basement.

How many sq ft is the house and how old, and where are you located?

To augment this discussion, I leave my basement vents "slightly" open in AC conditions so that the basement gets a wee bit of air circulation. In winter, I leave the basement vents open a wee bit more because as Admin says, the heat will eventually rise anyway. I also have a very large room in my 2,000 sq. ft. bungalow basement, which is heated with a gas fireplace - hence, I need less hot air being pushed to the basement for warmth. Just my thoughts...
