Morning everyone,
Was very happy with my new Mitsubishi Zuba last summer : could barely hear it and far more efficient than my previous system. But this winter has been a different experience. From -5 degrees and below it runs at max pretty much full time which is fine. But about 20% of the time a higher frequency whistle sets in reaching 85 decibels. The high frequency seems to help the sound travel through walls and windows with minimal dampening. Neighbours are complaining, nothing on our street sounds anywhere near that loud. We sigh when it goes into defrost mode because we can barely hear that. The installer came and tested the pressure etc. and couldn't find anything wrong with it but admits ours is the only one he has installed. Has anyone experienced this? Can anything be done?
Cheers,
David
I would guess it's either a compressor noise or something wrong with the outdoor metering device (TXV). It should be covered under warranty and if the decibel level is higher than what Bylaw allows they should replace whatever is causing the noise.
I would suggest contacting Mits troubleshooting. I believe they had an issue causing that but never did hear what the solution was.
How do you contact Mitsubishi directly? Never did find a tech support #.
Thanks!

Were you ever able to figure this out? I've been having a similar problem for the past couple years (installed in 2019).
My installer couldn't find anything wrong, but it's hard to have them visit on a day that's cold. They are trying to schedule a Mitz rep for later this month.
In my head I'm imagine the whistle sound starts as the frost builds up on the outdoor unit. It disappears after the defrost cycle, but comes back about 20 minutes before defrost kicks in again.
In addition to the whistle, I find there is a sound at about 200hz that comes and goes about once a minute as a motor speeds up and slows down (i don't know if it's the compressor or fan). It would be less annoying if it was a constant speed instead of modulating over the period of one minute.
