Title: Ecobee 5 HRV wiring help needed
Post by: Rob180sx on July 25, 2019, 08:47:08 PM
Hi there.

I just purchased an Ecobee 5. I hooked it up to my gas furnace/ac unit just fine but I've hit a wall hooking it up to my HRV. The HRV looks to be hooked up on it's own with just a green and blue wire going to the wall plate. Nothing going back to the furnace. So the Ecobee has an AC+ and AC- connector, do I just hook up these 2 wires to that to the AC+ and - ? Which goes where? Or is it more complicated than that? I've read the manual For both the Ecobee and the HRV and neither make sense to me.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks

It doesn't matter which HRV wire goes to ACC+ or ACC -.

What kind of HRV is it?  It doesn't sound like it was installed properly if it's not interlocked with the furnace.  Fortunately the Ecobee will do this for you.

Ya it definitely wasn't hooked up correctly. Or at least not from what I have read. I have it connected to the 2 ACC connectors and it seems all good. This is the manual from the HRV, doesn't have a brand name on it which I find really weird.

It looks like the Venmar / Vanee 65H model.  It's a good unit.

I can confirm it's a Venmar 65H. I'm hoping by connecting it to my Ecobee that I will be using it better than the way it was hooked up previously. Seems like it was installed basically to just meet minimum requirements of the building code.
