Title: location of fresh air vent
Post by: adepaolis on February 05, 2020, 09:34:47 AM
Hello,

Several years ago we had the basement finished.  A new fresh air intake/vent was created as up until then I didnt have one for my furnace.  I was told that it would be better to have fresh air to improve indoor air quality.  Ovwer the years I didnt think much about the location of this new vent but its really close to by exahust and I was wondering if its within safety/code tolerances or if I need to do something.  I think the exterior wall space is small so there wasnt alot of choice maybe where to place it.  please see this picture.  Im located in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada Thanks

It's definitely not an approved intake termination.

Likely the water heater manual has an inside corner clearance that was not satisfied.

You have to refer to both furnace and water heater manuals.

I would just snorkel all the vents up to correct this, if that's an option.

If the water heater is under 101,000 BTU's it only needs to be kept 12" from the furnace intake.
