Hi there, first off let me state this question is for a school report - I'm not looking for any sort of official quote or anything like that.
I'm referring to HVAC systems in residential homes, picture your standard one-family house, maybe three bedrooms with an upstairs and a basement kind of thing.
Let's say it's reasonably modern, maybe built in the 70's, already has central air/heat - assume the condenser and furnace are really new, maybe a couple of years old, does not need replacement. Now, let's say someone was crazy enough to want to convert the existing central HVAC system to a zoned system, with controls for each bedroom, each floor.
I know that the first part of the answer is "too much, you wouldn't want to spend that much on that kind of system"
What I'm looking for is an estimate of what it actually would cost, because I'm comparing this to an alternative - again this is just for a report.
I'm looking at complete cost, so if you need to take the walls down, you need to patch it up and paint (assume you would sub-out that part if you don't do that kind of work). Start to finish, owners go on vacation for three weeks and come back to a finished zoned HVAC system, what would you think it would cost?
Also please include the region that you're from, I'm in Ontario, Canada, so if you're from the US (for example), I'll convert the dollars over for my area.
Thank you very much! I obviously don't expect anyone to take a bunch of time on this one, just thought that people here might be able to sort of guess at it far better than I could.
