Hi. Hope everyone is well and safe.
Today, thought I would turn on the ac (Carrier Puron installed circa 2001) to cool the house a bit but also to check it for the season. The compressor outside is turning on and off and there is very little cooling going on inside. What is causing this and is a service call necessary? Thanks
Just wanted to add: Got outside to watch and listen to the compressor (hopefully using the right term for it). When it comes on the fan doesn't spin, the unit begins humming and the humming grows louder and louder and then it shuts off abruptly like some kind of switch turns on to protect the unit.
A service call is necessary to find out why the fan is not working. Without it working, your head pressures are just increasing from the excessive heat and this is shutting down the compressor.
Could be your cap or actual fan
Thanks guys! Turned out to be a bad capacitor.
