Title: Wiring Air Exchanger to Ecobee
Post by: Zabrodov on October 19, 2021, 05:16:55 PM
Hi everyone,

I am trying to understand how to connect my air exchanger to Ecobee and I will appreciate advice on that! I have little understanding of the nuances as well as options on how to wire a simple device to a smart thermostat.

I have an Air Exchanger Venmar EA20200, which is only connected to a power source and a simple controller. There is no connection to the furnace.

The Air exchanger operates at 120v and the wires that go to the controller are also rated at 120v. The connection is exactly the same as on the picture from the installation guide.

If anyone can share advice on how to connect the exchanger to the ecobee thermostat, it would help me a lot!

Thanks!

Sooooo, ecobee is ment to work with 24v. So a unit that is strictly 120v will not work unfortunately. There are smart stats that can work with 120v out there, but if I recall correctly, they'd need more then 2 wires for proper operation.

Your best option would be to build a bunch of transformer/relays to create a 24v control circuit, or use a smart tstat compatible with 120v. You'll need to run some extra wires. I imagine your main desire is to control everything with your phone. So you can have the unit set near the air exchanger itself, while still accessable via a smart phone. Saves you from running wires through floors, or ceilings and have everything set up near the unit itself.

Sergroum is right, you can't connect 120V to the Ecobee even though the ACC terminals are dry contacts.

I see the HRV model listed on this recall,

Thanks everyone! That's unfortunate but at least I know for sure that it can't be done and I will just keep it as it is.

Thank you!
