Title: Fireplaces only source of heat
Post by: Mikeydaman on March 26, 2022, 10:44:50 AM
Hey gang, been a while but if I remember correctly a gas fireplace cannot be a home owners only source of heat correct?  If so, does anyone know where in the code book it states that?  I cannot seem to find it.  Thanks

It does not say that in the b149 any where that I'm aware of. There are plenty of homes I've been in where a natural gas wall heater is the only source of heat.

Could it be in the building or municipal code for a certain area?

I believe most gas fireplaces are not rated by the manufacturer to be a primary heating source and are considered a decorative appliance.

It's possible it can violate 4.1.3 when the manual states this.

Never thought of it that way.  Good point.
