Title: Recepticle for water heater
Post by: deep on May 10, 2022, 06:28:21 AM
Can you please tell me where it is written in the code book that the water heater should be plugged in a dedicated recepticle in Ontario?

I asked tech support, he said its in ELECTRICAL CODE of Ontario.

Any reference of that please

Lots of good info here:

https://esasafe.com/assets/files/esasafe/pdf/Electrical_Safety_Products/Guidelines/ESA-SPEC-007-R8-Residential-HVAC-and-Hot-Water-Tank-Installations.pdf

A gas water heater that supplies both domestic hot water and heating equipment
shall be supplied by a branch circuit that does not supply any other outlets or by the
same branch circuit that supplies the heating unit and associated equipment.

A gas water heater is not required to have a separate branch circuit for a power
vent and ignition circuit and shall not be connected to the furnace circuit. The
receptacle for a gas water heater is permitted to be supplied by the required
dedicated circuit for utility room receptacles or by any convenient general-purpose
receptacle/lighting circuit, if the water heater is not located in the utility room

Always thought of it as a heating issue. If the house relies on a unit to heat itself, it should be on a dedicated line.
