I just bought a smart thermostat, can the Y and G wire tie to the common wire in order for the A/C to turn on?
Or will that effect the unit eventually?
This electric furnace does not have terminals with G, W, Y, C, R, RC screws, its wires instead.
Thanks
That would likely create a short.
Nest makes a power connecter and Ecobee a PEK adapter for people who need the C wire.
There should be 2 wires coming from the AC that connect to the furnace Y and C wires. You should be able to find the C connection by tracing those wires.
For now you could turn the G wire into C and connect it to the C terminal on the thermostat and the C wire in the furnace. You would just lose fan control but your fan would still start whenever there was a call for heating or cooling and work automatically.
If you use G wire for C, please confirm your fan turns on during heating.
This looks like an electrical resistance heating, they usually rely on the thermostat to tell them to turn the fan on.
I always hated these units that never had a marked terminal strip to connect to. Provide the model and serial number of this unit. Do you only have 4 wires at the stat?
