I have a residential updraft unit installed in a closet in the garage. The unit is mounted to a raised floor, the area below the unit is where the return air ducts enter. This area has been insulated with 1" duct board, would there be any advantage to adding another layer of 1" for more R value?

Sorry JD, I don't know the answer, because I have the same question. It appears to be a simple enough question; yet this post has been waiting for a response for 17 days. I left my old site due to a lack of responses, so this is hardly encouraging...
To answer the post above I would say, yes adding more insulation will improve the R value. Preventing the return air from getting too cold will help prevent condensation and preserve the HVAC equipment.
