Title: Lennox HP / AH compatibility
Post by: joephu on March 21, 2023, 11:10:26 AM
I tried calling Lennox but they were no help.  I do general home inspections and noticed the installer put a 3 ton condenser with a 4 ton AH.  My understanding is that 1/2 ton difference is the general rule.  Can anyone shed some light if these 2 units are compatible? Homeowner said condenser has gotten louder and has high humidity alrets from her thermostat in the summer with AC on and windows closed.

HP = 16HPX-036-23A01
AH = CBA25UHV-048-230A02

I attached the AHRI certificate and it is an approved match.  Using a larger coil will increase the SEER rating.

It sounds like 3 tons is oversized if they are having humidity issues.  Likely the AC cycles on and off when it should be running a longer cycle.  This is where 2 stage cooling is beneficial.  There's also a chance of a refrigerant leak causing these issues so service may be required.

They can try to reduce the furnace fan airflow, in cooling mode, so the coil gets colder and removes more moisture.

Thank you so much, that makes a lot of sense.
