Over the last 2 summers I noticed the A/C wasn't cooling as well as is had. This year nothing.. I went out and cleaned the unit and made sure it wasn't froze up. (Nope). I changed the filter and vaccumed inside and to the coils as much as possible. I checked the drain (clogged) fixed it still nothing.when I start the cycle the furnace turns on after a min the unit turns on and everything looks great. About 4 min later the unit stops. NOW today I realized that the hot water tank is starting like normal but after 2 minutes there is usually a whoosh noise (descriptive... I know ..lol)
Now there is a tick sound and the tank turns off only to try again about 4 or 5 times then stop all together each time the exact same thing happens. I can't afford a tech right now so any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so very much for reading
It sounds like your air conditioner has a slow leak and you are out of refrigerant. There is probably a pressure switch inside the outdoor unit that is preventing the AC from running more than five minutes. You will likely have to pay a tech to come do a leak search and recharge the system. It's possible your indoor coil still has a part warranty and you would only have to pay for labour, if there is no longer labour warranty and the indoor coil ends up being the problem.
It sounds like the flame sensor is dirty on the water heater and that is something that is fairly easy to remove and clean with a piece of steel wool. The model number will be listed on the front rating plate and you should be able to find a video that shows you how to remove the flame sensor. Are you sure you own the water heater and it's not a rental? If you see a charge on your Enbridge bill, the rental company will come fix it for free. Just take a peek outside at the gas meter and make sure it hasn't been turned off.
