Struggling to get clarification on this from anyone!
Our gas range has the following requirements for good clearance:
"Allow a 42" minimum clearance between burners and bottom of unprotected wood or metal cabinet, or allow a 24" minimum distance is allowed when bottom of wood or metal cabinet is protected by no less than ΒΌ" thick flame-retardant millboard covered with no less than No. 28 MSG sheet metal (0.15" thick), 0.15" thick stainless steel, 0.25" aluminum, or .020" copper."
We would like to install a fully stainless steel hood (no cabinet will be over the range). The clearance I had in mind was 30" per the MA code for gas ranges. The good company was not able to certify that the above "protection" is in place on their hoods, but my question is, are those protections necessary for metal hoods or not?? The range specifies "wood or metal cabinets" so I'm not sure how to interpret that. 42" seems like overkill to me, especially without cabinets above the range.. hoping the metal hood fits the minimum of 24" requirement!
Here are the range specs and installation instructions:

Thank you for your help!
Your exhaust hood is not part of those clearance numbers. You have nothing to worry about with those clearances if you're saying there isn't going to be any cupboards above. Look at what the manual for the hood calls for and what the stove is asking.
I have never seen a 42" requirement before but that's what the manual says. Our gas code in Ontario says 30".
If there is not a cabinet above then there should be no issue.
I couldn't access the google drive but you can attach the range hood manual here if you have it. Or model number will work. I'm curious what it says.
Youi should have no issues installing a non combustible range hood 24" or 30" above a gas range.
I know there are many States that don't even require a range hood be vented outside.
Thank you both! That's exactly what I was thinking and hoping to hear - the 42" clearance for a "metal cabinet" totally threw me off.

Thanks again for your insights!

Do they have to be vented outside in Ontario, even if the manual does not specify this?
From the Ontario Building Code,
Quote9.32.3.5. Supplemental Exhaust
(2) An exhaust air intake shall be installed in each kitchen, bathroom and water closet room.
