Title: HRV defrost motor
Post by: Smck_6 on March 03, 2024, 12:55:03 PM
Model HRV3 - 200
I'm in Canada where it regularly get to -20 Celsius.  When this happens my insulated intake duct gets ice build up inside the insulation, the duct which blows into the house gets ice build up where it comes out of the unit.  The defrost damper motor makes a lot of buzzing sounds but I believe that it may not be working properly and this might be where my issue is.  Wanting to see if anyone has had this problem before I buy a new motor.

Thank you

Make sure none of the insulated flex is torn and that the connections outside and to the HRV are sealed.  If warm air from inside the house mixes with that cold air it will start to condense and could freeze.

You should be able to power up the HRV with the door open by pushing in the door switch.  Some models you need to use a magnet, where the door touches.  And see if the damper is opening and closing.

I replaced mine before Covid.  I think the part was around $70 from Goodman.  Now I see them online for around $300 at most places.  Criminal.
