Title: Which of these AC options is best?
Post by: ACQuestions on July 02, 2025, 08:50:58 AM
I'm installing a new central AC in my small bungalow, 1023 Sq. Feet. These are the two options I'm considering, both similarly priced ($4750 CAD tax included). All reputable companies in my area.

1. Daikin – DX13SA 1.5 Ton.
Warranty = 12 year parts, 2 year labour.

2. Ameristar M4AC5: 2.0 ton 14.3 SEER2.
Warranty = 10 year parts, 1 year labour.

Some of my thoughts:

- Ameristar is 2.0 ton and Daikin is only 1.5 ton, but it's a small
home and I may only need 1.5 ton.

- Ameristar is 14.3 SEER and I think the Daikin is only 13 SEER. Is this
  difference signifcant?

- Daikin has better warranty but I've also read some negative
  reviews on Daikin as well.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Daikin is probably better quality wise, but ultimately all brands have some bad experience for someone, somewhere.

Difference between 1.5 and 2 ton is significant.

Difference between 13 and 14 SEER is not great, but they do exist. For the record, in 2023 the production of 13 SEER has stopped. Its still allowed to install existing stock, but they arent produced any longer.

The guy selling the Daikin (1.5 Ton) told me 2.0 Ton was too much for the house and that it requires 1.5 Ton. Does this makes sense?

Yeah. It does make sense.
