Title: UV light install
Post by: johnml on October 13, 2025, 06:23:52 PM
good evening.... i am looking at installing a uv light on my hvac system... the input to the light shows to be 24 volt, 1.5 amp..... the light is supplied with a plug in transformer with an output of 24 volt, 1.5 amp..... can that be wired by cutting the wire from the transformer and wiring it to the R & C terminals on the ac terminal block so that it only comes on when the unit is running rather than being on all the time with the outlet plug

Check the UV bulb manual because some models only want to get powered when the furnace fan is energized.  Using R and C will power the UV bulb constantly.

The furnace transformer shouldn't have a problem powering the UV bulb though.

Let me know what model of furnace you have because sometimes they are equipped with 120V EAC terminals.  So you could install a secondary transformer and wire the UV bulb to it.  That way the UV bulb will only energize when the furnace fan is running.
