Post by: aniki1516 on January 01, 2009, 08:37:15 AM
gas furnace.
The furnace suddenly stop working. filter really dirty no heat coming out so i turned off and replaced filter,    I removed the panel to reveal the circuitry.  When I depress the  safety lockout switch I hear a humming fron the transformer, after a few seconds when I release the switch I hear a clicking sound like a solonoid. its not the blower fan because when i put the thermostat lower the blower fan starts  What part could it be and how would I check it out.   I can tak a digital picture of the guts and send it via email if that would help. help help   Its New Years and it is cold.   thanks a \lot
anu help would be gratly appreciated!!

I think the safety switch you're referring to is the door switch.  It interupts power to the furnace when the door is off.  You're just hearing the relay energize and de-energize.
I don't understand how lowering the thermostat would cause the fan to start... What kind of furnace do you have?

That's a low end furnace, probably a $500 service call.
Call a Lennox dealer for that part.

Your diagnosis sounds correct.  Verify the drainage is clear if it's a high efficiency furnace,  a plugged drain could have caused the venter to overheat.

Get Lennox to give you the part number, you might be able to cross reference a Rotom motor for less.
$475 is the retail price no doubt.  Make sure you re use the restrictor disc from the back of the old motor if there is one.

The ALLTEMP ROTOM webpage is - Here (http://www.alltemp.ca/index.php)

Look under Products, Heating Parts, Flue Exha. Mtrs & Blowers or click - Here (http://www.alltemp.ca/_pdfs/master_catalogs/rotom_master_v40.pdf#page=68)
