I see companies hiring all year round.  Visit your local HVAC wholesalers, there's usually a board with job postings.  Companies get busy in the spring with a/c maintenances and in the fall with furnace tuneups.  They generate alot of sales and increase the installations.  As a helper you would most likely be doing installations.  A company with a good sales department can keep busy year round.

the month of may leading into summer is the best time to look for employment, companys are gearing  up for the summer airconditioning rush. good chance of getting your foot in the door...a good tip for you, if you start for a good company as a helper and give a 110% they will also keep you through the slow months.....it seems alot of companys would rather keep good guys over the slow times rather than go through the hireing prosess all over again.........thats been my experience.....good luck :) :)
