Title: Norlake walk in freezer with 502
Post by: joshimh on November 27, 2011, 08:47:19 PM
Hi
Need some help regarding Norlake walk in freezer. This Norlake package type freezer in not maintaining temperature. Condition wise this unit looks good but it is using R502 refrigerant which we can not get it anymore. My question is should change it to R404 or R408 ? and which oil I should add ? Condensing pressures for 502 and 408 is same so I won't have to change TXV if I go with 408.

Manufacturer : Norlake Inc
Model # CPF50C
Serial # 96030483
Refrigerant : 502, 40 oz
Compresssor Model # Copeland KAN2-0050-IAA-100, 115V (semi hermatic)
Current pressures in the system : 25 / 175 shows low on gas

Thanks in Advance,
Josh

The easiest solutuion is to change it to 408a, no oil change will be required. Generally you even find that the freezer works better due to it being a blend. Generally, no txv change is required, although I have had retrofits where the system didn't work well until it was.
If system is low now, make sure you find and repair the leak first.

Thanks for info RMUNTZ,

It is low so I will find a leak and fix it, recover R502, replace filter drier, Clean with Nitrogen, vaccum and fill with 408. I will let you know how it goes.

Thanks again,
Josh
