no vent free fireplaces will be sold in ontario. so it is written so it shall be. are we allowed to install ventless gas fireplaces outside? on a porch or deck. ive seen this being done??? and also i'm not up to speed on my propane codes. do the gas lines have to be bonded. ty if you reply
Ventless outdoor appliances are approved as long as they are certified for use in Ontario (CSA, ULC, ETL etc.)
Having a certification stamp doesn't always mean it's approved in Ontario though, as we have seen with Torino Corp losing their ETL certification. See Director's Order FS-137-08 (http://www.hvactechgroup.com/files/order/fs13708.pdf)
Currently Clause 4.7.1 is used to enforce the bonding requirements with both natural gas and propane installations. The bonding requirements will depend on the type of material being used and on the installation of the existing gas line. Usually the standard bonding connection at the furnace or water heater is all that is required. Certain types of CSST may require additional upstream bonding.

piping or tubing shall NOT be used as a electrical ground. An electric circuit shall not utilize piping or tubing in lieu of wiring, except for a low voltage control circuit, ignition circuit, oe electronic flame detection device circuit incorporated as part of an appliance.
Clause 6.14.6 does not apply to bonding, it only applies to grounding.

When the B149.1-10 code is adopted in Ontario, December 1, 2012, the bonding requirements will be enforced using Clause 4.7.3.
