I have a challenging horizontal install, currently the furnace is in the horizontal left hand discharge orientation. With this current installation, the return air inlet is connected to top of the furnace (right hand side if in standard up flow position). I have looked into Payne, Goodman and Rheem brand furnaces, each of these do not permit connection of the return to top, connections are only permitted on the base or bottom of the furnace. Furnace cannot be relocated or raised to allow this installation. Is anyone aware of a brand of furnace that allows such connection of the return?
Thanks
Is the newer furnace not shorter than the existing one? You're only option would be to modify the return air duct to the end of the furnace.
Check out Rheem again. With conversion kits RXGY-CK and RXGY-ZK you should be good to go. Keep in mind you need to be a Rheem dealer to buy.
I think what he wants to do is connect the return air to the top of the horizontal cabinet, instead of to the end of it.
Doh!

original furnace was probably not installed to code. :(
I do not have much idea about it. But I would suggest you to talk to a professional who will help in this issue. Recently, my friend installed a furnace in his house by hiring heating North NJ (https://allweekheating.com/hvac-heating-repair-installation-service-north-nj.html) experts. If you need any furnace related assistance you can contact them.
post a picture of the current installation.
