Title: A/c run times

Anyone know what the average run time of an a.c would be annually for Ontario. Specifically kingston. Trying to compare seer values for people and give them a dollar figure for a 13 seer vs a 16 seer. Thanks

You can change the "US NATIONAL AVERAGE" to Ontario and click the "CUSTOMIZE HOME" button to compare different SEER levels.

It looks like Kingston had 318 cooling degree days in 2018.

A good rule of thumb for Ontario is, 400 cooling hours and 3000 heating hours.

With 400 cooling hours the worst investment you can make is in a higher SEER AC.  Unless you're looking for a quieter AC the hydro savings will never pay you back even after 15 years.

A 16 SEER AC would save roughly $300 over a 15 year period comparing it to a 13 SEER AC.

My cost alone is $350 more for a 16 SEER than a 13SEER AC, just for the outdoor unit.  Then you would need a more expensive coil, plus markup.

Awesome advice and thanks for the tip. I always question the payback period especially when comparing single stage all the way up to fully modulating furnaces as well.

Keep in mind I find (usually) that 16 seer is quieter than the 13 seer. If u still wanted to go the 13 seer route you could throw a compressor blanket on to help with noise. Not saying there is a drastic difference or anything but I find a difference
