Hey Im a Gas Technician 2 and have been in the field for a few years. Anyways I applied to a company that is a Large sub contractor for Hot Water Heaters through direct energy. But the way the business is laid out it sub contracts it out to the installer. This Company provides everything from my understanding Truck, Tools, Materials Etc...But the only thing is you have to be a register contractor to get paid. Talking to the guys who work through this company the moneys good.

Anyways how do you register as a contractor. Do you first register with CRA to get a Business And HST number, then Apply to TSSA to get the contractor number, and then get business liability insurance. Also what can I expect when the TSSA Inspector is comes for the initial visit as part of the application process, and what do I need to have prepared for that.

Thanks

The order you mentioned is correct and the forms can be found here,

I don't think there's a lot to worry about from the TSSA when you become a registered contractor.  Until you do work there's no jobs they can really inspect.  Your 3rd year audit would be more comprehensive.  Anyone can register as a TSSA contractor and then hire certificate holders to do the work, in which case you would have no tools or equipment or even knowledge about service and installations.  If you are the certificate holder doing the work they may want to see your code book, purging tool, pressure test equipment etc...
