Does anyone know if HiMark  is providing OBT courses?  Or any trade school / college?    It seems like the schools are trying to go just a Gas Direction. (I can't blame them). However Oil is still widely used in my area..

Not that I know of. I remember the last time I was there the teacher was saying they were wanting to offer it. I would be interested in taking the OBT2 course as I have no other way of obtaining the license since all other methods involve taking an entire hvac course with licenses I already have. With electricity having gone through the roof in Ontario, I've seen oil equipment come back in popularity in areas with no natural gas.

The TSSA website lists training providers for the Oil Burner Technician certification here,

I think the TSSA website is just outdated when there was a time Hi-Mark was doing the course. The Hi-Mark website is updated pretty frequently with course schedules and what not. For the longest time it's only been Gas Technician courses of all levels, ODP, and air condition/refrigeration pre-exams to help people pass.

Thank you for the link Admin, but I agree with "Porcupinepuffer"  the site is a little out dated. They list Kemptville College - University of Guelph, which no longer exists as of 2015.

The only time I hear of a green Oil Tech, they are always coming from a  2 year College program. In 2008 when choosing a trade school I thought I remember seeing trade schools offering oil/gas courses. (Side note; At the time I thought  just a gas license was going to be the future of our trade.)

I wonder if its due to a lack of OBT1s willing to be an instructor.

TS Technical college in Waterloo area runs OBT courses I believe...

Their website doesn't have any listed right now, but then again they don't have any G3 courses listed right now either, so they will probably have some coming sooner or later.

It would be nice if there was a viable avenue for OBT training. It seems like I got my OBT2 just in time. I went through the Kemptville program for my OBT2 and OBT3 after having worked unlicensed for a year or so. Of all the training I've gone through I found it to be the most useful. I went back there for my G3, and later did my G2 nights at Fanshawe in Woddstock. That was a joke.

I've been emailing TS Technical in regards to the OBT1 GAP course every year for three years now. Same response every time: "We don't have any courses scheduled at this time."

It would be nice if I could get this certification in order to work on larger fuel systems for diesel engines as this has been a growing market in recent years. It seems like a pipe dream at this point.

I had the same problem with the HVAC Designs course in Ottawa. It was always cancelled, and I had to drive to Toronto to finally complete the course.
