Turned the TV on while eating breakfast and Holmes on Homes was on. He was having an HVAC expert come in and give his opinion on some issues. This naturally caught my attention.
The guy pointed out the aluminum vent connector going into a Y with the furnace and was saying we're not allowed using aluminum venting on natural draft water heaters, and that it must be galvanized... Now this episode is several years old and I've never heard of this. Is there something I'm missing? I'm to the understanding that if there's no dilution air for the vent connector, then galvanized is required.

He also mentioned he's not a fan of gas copper tubing. He says he prefers the flexible "aluminum" tubing... Which when shown, was either tracpipe, wardflex, or gastite...

So am I missing something with the natural draft water heaters that we can't use aluminum? I know the show is based in Ontario so I'm scratching my head now... I haven't seen any new or old natural draft water heaters that didn't use aluminum as the vent connector.

They have referred to a PV50 tank as High Efficiency as well.. Take what they say with a grain of salt :)

Holmes also pointed out a small hole from a sheet metal screw on the Y pipe and said "shame on inspector for not noticing that".... As if  that tiny hole on a natural drafting chimney is the end of the world.

Lol.. Ya also I would not rely on a home inspector for hvac system analysis.. I watched the guy in my house. Looked in the sight glass saw flame.. Said it looks good.. LOL

Also seen home inspectors claim defective heat exchangers just by walking into the furnace room?
