Contravention: Person employing or otherwise engaging an individual to perform work or engage in a practice that constitutes engaging in the practice of a compulsory trade without proper qualifications, contrary to section 4 of the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009 (OCTAA).

Summary: On August 2, 2017, Ontario College of Trades inspectors conducted an inspection at a commercial site located at 807 Dundas Street, Woodstock ON. The inspectors determined that one individual employed by Hunter Plumbing, Heating & Excavating was installing an air conditioning unit for a business operating on site, while he did not hold a Certificate of Qualification or Statement of Membership in the compulsory trade of refrigeration and air conditioning systems mechanic (313A) that is not suspended, and while he was not an apprentice in the trade working pursuant to a registered training agreement that is not suspended.

Notice of Contravention: On October 6, 2017, a College inspector issued a Notice of Contravention to Hunter Plumbing, Heating & Excavating of Princeton, requiring it to pay an administrative penalty of $500. Hunter Plumbing, Heating & Excavating had no other OCTAA Notices of Contravention issued to it in the three years preceding the date of the current notice.
