Hi,

We are looking to put A/C in our house. Any suggestion on brand? We got quote vary from 1800 - 2500$, not sure which one we should go for. Below are some options, appreciate anyfeedback?

1) Goodman with Goodman Coil 13 Seer base model 3 ton
2) Carrier with carrier coil - 13 seer comfort series base model (300$ more than Goodman)
3) Lennox with ADP coil - 13 Seer ACX 3 ton model (almost same price as Carrier)

Thanks.

Anything between $1800 - $2500 for 13 SEER units seems like a fair price.  They are all decent units, but out of those models the Lennox would be the quietest.  I'm assuming you live somewhere with minimal cooling hours if your buying 13 SEER, which is the right choice.  I also think the Keeprite 13 SEER AC's are even quiter and in the same price range.

The Carrier 5 year parts warranty can be extended to 10 years if you register online within 90 days of the installation.  I would compare that to the other units parts warranty.

It really comes down to the quality of the installer to ensure a long lasting AC.

Thanks. What should I ask installer to get a feeling he/she will be good installer. Everyone says they are licensed. Also would ADB coil should be ok with Lennox or should I ask for Lennox coil. Lennox with ADP coil does effect 10 years warranty? I heard some time companies get hard time if one use third party coil. BTW all of them coming with one year labor and 10 years parts warranty
I have also sear came in they are giving H4A3 Kenmore with 10 years part and 10 years labor. Ofcourse need to pay premium high price. Compare to Lennox need to pay 900 - 1000$ more. I believe they also provide yearly maintenance part of their warranty.

I have a keeprite myself.  I read on lots of places that they are great AC.  No issues with it so far but it's only my 2nd summer using it.

Ask the installer if you can see his 313D refrigeration license. Also, ask if there is an electrical permit for the work they are doing.
Make sure the work they do is neat and tidy and all the mess is cleaned up.
Make sure the hole in the wall is done properly.
If the unit is installed on a bracket make sure it is secured properly (you should be able to sit on it).
If the unit is installed on a patio stone make sure it is prepared properly and level.
Make sure the line set is run neatly and secured properly.
Make sure the drain is run properly and secure (not a hole drilled through the floor).
You CANNOT install an a/c for $1800 using licensed workers and following all the rules.

that last point couldn't be more true.
