How to keep earwigs and other bugs out of contactors

Does any body have any good ideas on how to prevent earwigs from getting into contactors in open, ventilated condensing units?

They sell a contactor with a cover over the paddle to prevent your problem, it costs about $10.  Also try using a boric acid powder, and sprinkle it around your condensing unit.
