There is a chance it could be the proper material that is approved for use with natural gas. I haven't seen it yet, but it might of been to code.  ProPressG is the correct stuff to use.
I don't really like the electrical box and plug with no cover and how sloppily it's placed back there with the cord taped around the flex.

In the end it doesn't matter the new stove was 128,000btus so even if it met code it would have been undersized over the distance. I am interested if that style of piping is approved?  Ive never seen gas line run like this

The Viega ProPressG fittings are approved for natural gas, whether the TSSA allows them to be used is another story.
There are also MegaPress Steel fittings that are approved for use in Ontario in natural gas lines. The company I work for does more OBT work, so I had checked with our Viega rep about MegaPress use for diesel as it is listed as compatible. The answer was no, basically the TSSA mandated that it be independently certified and Viega would have to foot the bill. Viega didn't see the value.

I believe FS-212-14 amended Clause 6.9.9 on October 1, 2014, permitting the use of press connect fittings.

Section 2 of the Gas Code states,

QuoteANSI/LC-4-2012/CSA 6.32-2012
Press-connect metallic fittings for use in fuel gas distribution systems

Just make sure the fittings in question have this certification.

page 2 on this link seems to say it is approved http://www.viega.us/cps/rde/xbcr/en-us/0005318.pdf

The fittings are copper and have a yellow marking dot on them. Hard drawn Type L and Type K copper I believe Use different jaws too of course.

They also make MegapressG for use on black pipe. Again have a yellow dot but are stainless in colour.

Propress G is allowed under the 2015 revision to the B149.1.

Type M copper is not though lol.
