Charge: Part III Provincial Offences Act summons for an offence under the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009, sec. 2 – individual engaging in compulsory trade – without Certificate of Qualification that is not suspended.

Summary: On December 19, 2016, Ontario College of Trades inspectors received a complaint that an unauthorized individual may have performed compulsory work in a Chatham residence on October 16, 2016. The inspectors determined that Cong Minh Bui installed a residential air conditioning system while he did not hold a Certificate of Qualification or a Statement of Membership in the compulsory trade of residential air conditioning systems mechanic (313D) that is not suspended, and while he was not an apprentice in the trade working pursuant to a registered training agreement that is not suspended.

On July 19, 2017 Cong Minh Bui was convicted of the charge in a Chatham court and ordered to pay a fine of $1,500 plus a $375 victim fine surcharge. In addition, the court issued a two-year probation order for Mr. Bui.

Regarding the linked article above from the Chatham Voice.

The OCOT has no authority regarding furnace installs, and a gas technician is not part of a compulsary trade. The headline should read, "Unlicensed air conditioning installer..."

Also I don't think that condensate pump will drain well during the winter months, assuming the furnace drain is connected to it... Is the venting even glued?

The court imposed a fine and 2 year probation on the worker while the company he works for likely got a small monetary fine, including a victim fine surcharge. So the worker is punished more the the company who profited. The company should be blamed for letting an unlicensed person do the work. The system stinks and is unfair.

with installs looking like that, I'm not sure how long they'll be in business anyways. Although these are probably the guys that advertise a furnace installed for $990

Aside from the flaws already mentioned, there's the butchered up opening that looks like the guy made it with a hatchet. It seems they already screwed up and had to patch a spot below. You then got this weird concoction of 3 different silicones (smeared in a nice mess). The combustion air sticking overly far out from the house. The exhaust seems to be done with ipex, but I'm seeing a royal marking on the elbow for the combustion air. The guy couldn't even take 2 seconds to cut off the excess from the tie wrap for a cleaner look...
I can't imagine what the rest of this install looks like.

QuoteGadal told The Voice previously that Green Planet had been very aggressive in its sales pitch for the heating and air conditioning system, offering a long-term lease of the units, with no cost to install, with monthly payments of $158 a month for 15 years.

They provide a free installation of a heating and AC system that ends up costing $28,440 after 15 years!  That article must be wrong.  Who would ever agree to that? Do they at least include a humidifier and HRV? LOL

I would love to see what the inside looks like too.  I wonder if the TSSA has investigated the furnace install.  You'd think the OCOT would notify them with such cases.

I didn't notice the different fittings.  Too funny!

These are the hack shows that have been screwing up the industry. Your average customer doesn't know any better and nowadays it all comes down to the cheapest bidder. I bet you this guy is busier than your average decent fitter. What a mess.
Please admin, keep these news releases coming. A couple of these releases had me laughing.

Lol, imagine walking by when the condensate pump releases the water! What kind of person does this??

Actually, when the furnace's were mid-efficiency and an a/c was installed, it wasn't overly uncommon to see the condensate tubing ran to the outside through the same hole as everything else. With no floor drain, sink, or any available plumbing to tap into, it was an option that worked. No issues of it freezing since it only worked in the hot summer weather... But it would run at least a couple feet outside, and sometimes right down into the bottom pan of the condenser.

Normally I would run it down closer to the ground with the line set so it comes out on the ground. The way he has it cut right at the wall would just shoot out straight a bit.  But now that you have turned something that we are trying to pick apart amusingly into a lesson about mid eff furnaces.... They probably have both the furnace and ac into the same pump which will be a winter service call for sure! I missed that one. Good catch!
