I'm not sure this is the best place to ask, but I've taken the first year HVAC program at GBC and am contemplating finishing elsewhere as I will not be able to make the September deadline. Is it possible to have the 1st year of a similar program at Centennial (or any other college for that matter) exempted entirely? Otherwise, it would be silly to spend another year studying the same or similar content. I'm really just looking to get my G2 which is why I posted here, but would also like some Refrigeration Theory as a refresher.

Thanks!

Update: I realized that Second Career only funds new programs so my question is: would it be possible to undertake the Gas 2 program at another school coupled with some refrigeration theory classes?

Hi Steelseries

Sorry for the delay in response.  I have forwarded your question to Mr. Rob Robertson who is a Professor of Heating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration at Centennial College.  As soon as I hear from him I will connect the two of you.

If for some reason he cannot answer the question, I will help you source the answer elsewhere.

Thank you! I look forward to hearing what he has to say. I'm interested in Centennial's HVAC program if I could get exemption for first year and intakes this September or January of the new year. I can provide my transcript as well if needed. I was unable to find one, but if Centennial has a Gas 2 program, that works as well.

I should mention that I am highly interested in an apprenticeship. My old employer, where I got laid off due to shortage of work, is willing to write me a reference letter with all my employment information (trade worked, hours worked, job position, description of job, etc). In the link above, it states the hours worked during co-op would go towards apprenticeship training. I'm a little confused. Does Centennial find students a potential apprenticeship? Is the paid co-op portion of the program completed as an actual registered apprentice? I think it's a little misleading to state that the hours will go towards apprenticeship training as that would be under the discretion of the potential employer, correct?

Sorry for all the questions, but hopefully you can assist.

So, it's now April 2016 and I am just reading this thread. I am a prof at Centennial College and we are offering a G2 course starting in May 2016,

As far as transferring from one school to another, go to ontransfer.ca .

If you still want answers to any other questions I'd be happy to help

Ron Thank you for answering ... I was just coming here to post for Kathy Devine of Centennial!

Centennial College runs a 2 year Co-op Diploma Apprenticeship program for the 313A trade. The program title is: Refrigeration & Air Conditioning  Mechanic - Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician. The students are in class for 2 semesters (September - end of April) and then have 8 months to get as much hands-on work experience as possible in their trade returning to school to school in January for 2 more semesters to complete the 3rd level of their Theoretical Training and their Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning diploma . In semesters 1 & 2 the students complete their Level 1 & 2 of the Theoretical Training for the 313A trade so they have that completed before they go and work for the 8 months. Before their paid Co-op work experience they also have their ODP Certification, IPEX S636 Gas Venting Training and their Working at Heights Training completed. Some of the students will also write their TSSA Gas 3 technician certification in late May or June.

Many of the students have their own vehicle to use for work and most have a valid Driver's License. They have "hands-on" experience from working in our labs here at Centennial and some students do have some industry work experience.

We have students who are available to start working immediately for 8 months. You will be eligible for all Apprenticeship Grants and Tax Credits from the government  if you Register your student as an Apprentice.

If you would like to discuss this further or are interested in hiring one of our students please contact: Kathy Devine at Centennial College at 416-289-5000 ext 3319 or email at kdevine@centennialcollege.ca
