Ok, now my home heat pump is acting up. It's a RUUD 10 seer. My wife noticed friday night that it was hot upstairs. We have a basement, main level and 2nd floor that share this unit.

I checked the outside unit and the compressor was iced over, as was the line leading from the compressor to the house. I defrosting it yesterday and overnight it iced over again. The upstairs never did really cool off yesterday. The basement was fine, and the first level was much cooler than the 2nd. System is 10-12 years old.

I am calling a pro in the morning, but curious as to what it may be and what it may cost.

Usually the evaporator will ice up if you have an air flow problem, like a plugged filter.  Or the system may have lost refrigerant, that could cause an ice up as well.

I would check your furnace filter first.  And make sure the indoor fan is running.
