QuoteHello,

We need you to come down to Queen's Park on April 10th at 3:00 p.m. and show your support to Stop The Trades Tax!

You are invited to meet with MPP Garfield Dunlop, PC Critic for Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship Reform, on the front lawn of Queen's Park to support him in his efforts to abolish the College of Trades and Stop The Trades Tax. Following the informal meeting, you are invited to join supporters in the Legislature's public gallery to watch the debate of an Opposition Day Motion to abolish the Ontario College of Trades.

This Motion comes at an important time. On Monday, April 8th, the Liberal Government will force hardworking tradespeople to pay a Trades Tax to fund its newest bureaucracy, the Ontario College of Trades.

The Trades Tax means tradespeople will see a fee increase of over 600 per cent while getting nothing in return.

That is why we must show our support on Wednesday, April 10th, to scrap the Ontario College of Trades and the Trades Tax.  The meet and greet and campaign photo will be at 3:00 p.m., followed by the debate and vote on the motion.

If you will be attending, please rsvp to Gaggan Gill in MPP Garfield Dunlop's office at gaggan.gill@pc.ola.org

The Stop The Trades Tax campaign appreciates your support and looks forward to seeing you on April 10th at Queen's Park.

WHAT: Meet and Greet with MPP Garfield Dunlop and PC Party Motion to abolish the College of Trades and Stop the Trades Tax
WHEN: Wednesday, April 10th, 2013 at 3:00 p.m.
WHERE: Legislative Assembly of Ontario, 111 Wellesley Street, Toronto, Ontario, M7A 1A2

Sincerely,

Sean Reid,
Chair of the Stop The Trades Tax Campaign

The Stop The Trades Tax campaign would like to thank all our supporters for helping to spread our message across the province. The fight to stop the Trades Tax continues to gain momentum. Together, we have already achieved several important wins:

Journeymen fees reduced from the proposed $200/year to $120
Apprentice fees reduced from $100 to $60
Employer fees reduced from as high as $600 to $120
A one year fee holiday for employers in 2013
More recently, our continued pressure has led to additional exemptions for tradespeople:

Barbers now won't have to pay the Trades Tax until 2015 (Unfortunately, hairstylists still must pay today
Tradespeople who got their licenses in a voluntary trade prior to April 8, 2013 won't have to pay the Tax to keep their certifications current
We should all be proud of these significant accomplishments. It is thanks to your emails, letters and phone calls that the Ontario Government and College of Trades is slowly getting the message.

But there is still more work to be done. The College of Trades is still nothing but a regressive tax funding a bureaucracy Ontario tradespeople don't need or want. We will not stop until the Ontario Government scraps the Trades Tax once and for all!

We will continue to be in touch on the next steps of the campaign.

Once again thank you for your support.

Sincerely,
Sean Reid

Chair of the Stop The Trades Tax
