Venmar Compact 3055 ( he1.3 )
« on: February 04, 2013, 01:37:07 PM »
Unit is 20 years old.

Water drips at door seam , front of unit.

I opened door when unit was running, could see water drops flying off right squirel cage landing on door foam

Would it be one of the damper actuators, if so which one (understand there are two on unit)

regards,
t.j.

I would call Venmar's Recall Hotline - 1-866-441-4645
Give them the model and serial and make sure that HRV was not part of the recall.  Some units manufactured in 1991 were affected.

I'm assuming this water leak is a new problem.  A faulty damper might affect the defrost mode but is unlikely the cause unless your finding ice in the HRV.   There is usually only one motorized damper on the fresh air from outside port.  There may be 2 manual balancing dampers on the fresh air to and stale air from building ports.

Has anyone replaced the furnace and maybe modified the drain line to the HRV?  Does the HRV drain line have a ptrap loop installed?  Did the HRV ducting get changed or modified?   Is there any ice or water inside the insullated ducts?  Is the drain line clear and clean?

Maybe it's just old and the door seal has worn out allowing water to leak past.

You're describing what sounds like a drainage problem.

Admin,
Thank you for your reply.
~ The water dripping at seam just started a while ago.
~ The Furnace is a carrier weathermaker that was installed the same time as hvac (1993).
~ It always ran great.

Their is no water in bottom of tray where drain tube runs from to sump pail.
I opend the door when unit was running( dripping at door bottom ),
you could actually see water droplets flying off right squirel cage on to the door!
~ I noticed where the drain hose loops is kinked, so I am going to replace the hose with a new one.

20 year old Carrier is most definately cracked.  Check the HX is you want a furnace sale.
