Trade Equivalency Assessment and Membership Application for 313D

Hello, I wish to write the certificate of qualification for 313D. I have filled out most of the application but I'm curious about one point. In section B, work experience and education; total number of hours worked is requested. I have 2400 hours in the trade, as I'm a G2/OBT2 working for a busy residential company in Ottawa. I will put 2400 hours but what are they expecting? I must be able to challenge without the union's required 9000 hours.

The OCOT has released a Residential Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic Apprenticeship Training Standard.  It seems to include the revoked Ontario Regulation 75/05.  The 313D only requires 3 periods not 5 periods of training.  Usually the 313D requires at least 2 years of work experience, unless you work a lot of overtime.  You need 2 periods of 1800 hours and 1 period of 900 hours for a total of 4500 hours.  It's the 313A that needs 9000 hours.  See Section 4(2),

4. (1) An apprentice training program to become a refrigeration and air conditioning systems mechanic shall consist of five periods, each of which shall consist of 1800 hours of classes that provide training and instruction and of on the job work experience.
(2) An apprentice training program to become a residential air conditioning systems mechanic shall consist of three periods as follows:
1. Two periods, each of which shall consist of 1800 hours of classes that provide training and instruction and of on the job work experience.
2. One period of 900 hours of classes that provide training and instruction and of on the job work experience.

I'm going to submit the application with a reference to my employer. My application will be seen by a registrar, if they are satisfied with my reference then I will be able to write the exam. If rejected I can file an appeal.

I have a lot of trouble understanding how this crap works since it seems to read so overly complicated. I've been working over a year with my boss who's a 313D and sure hope the hours I've done working with him can be contributed to getting permission to write the 313d exam. All this 1800 hours and prior permission from a director and 900 hours in class is scaring me, the idea of sitting in a class and having everything I already know explained back to me will drive me nuts... Everyone else I've spoken to seemed to have no issues with getting permission to challenge these exams.

If you have 4500 hours of field experience you can challenge the exam.  Only when you go through the apprenticeship program do you need to complete in class training.
