Contravention: Individual engaging in the practice of a compulsory trade without proper qualifications, contrary to section 2 of the Ontario College of Trades and Apprenticeship Act, 2009 (OCTAA).

Summary: On April 11, 2017, Ontario College of Trades inspectors conducted an inspection at a residence in Bracebridge, ON. The inspectors determined that Kenneth James Preston was installing an air conditioning unit while he did not hold a Certificate of Qualification or a Statement of Membership in the compulsory trade of residential air conditioning systems mechanic (313D) that is not suspended, and while he was not an apprentice in the trade working pursuant to a registered training agreement that is not suspended.

Notice of Contravention: On November 20, 2017, a College inspector issued a Notice of Contravention to Kenneth James Preston of Huntsville, setting out an administrative penalty of $250. Mr. Preston had no other OCTAA Notices of Contravention issued to him in the three years preceding the date of the current notice.
