The Future of OCOT

The Ontario government recently announced that it will wind down the Ontario College of Trades (OCOT).  HRAI members and HVACR contractors in general have a major interest in the promotion, enforcement and proper administration of trades training and certification in the province.

What will come in place of OCOT?

Who will be responsible for promotion of the trades?

Who will enforce existing regulations?

Will these regulations even continue to apply?

Who will handle registration and processing of apprentices?

Many of these questions remain unanswered.  While the government works on its solutions, HRAI has a tremendous opportunity to help shape trades and apprenticeship going forward by providing constructive advice to the Ontario Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities.

On November 27th, Martin Luymes, HRAI's Vice President of Government and Stakeholder Relations, will lead an open forum discussion that will explore potential new administrative models that will achieve the desired industry goals.

Come and be part of the discussion!  The future of your business and the industry might depend on it!

At this same meeting, the HVAC Coalition Inc. will have its Annual General Meeting, as will the HRAI GTA Chapter.  These meetings will be very brief.

See the meeting registration form attached.  Non members welcome!
